Senior Research Officer in Ecology & Water Quality
Daire is Senior Research Officer with Teagasc (Environment, Soils and Land-Use Department, Johnstown Castle) with over 15 year’s research experience in agri-environment. He is the Principal Investigator to a number of studies focussing primarily on Terrestrial & Aquatic Ecology, Water Quality and Mitigation Methods, Sediment Dynamics and impacts on freshwater ecosystems, and Evaluation of agri-environment measures.
Senior Research Officer in Catchment Science
Per-Erik is a Senior Research Officer in Catchment science in the Department of Environment, Soils and Landuse, Teagasc and has been working within the Irish Agricultural Catchments Programme since 2008. His research concerns advancing knowledge in water quality issues for a sustainable environment and food production system under the impacts of increasing population and changing climate.
Soil Hydrologist in Environmental and Biochemical Sciences
Allan is a soil scientist with particular interest in hydropedology. He has a background in soil survey, biophysical resource analysis and land evaluation and has been responsible for both systematic soil survey and land evaluation at a national level and contract soil surveys at detailed scales. A key aspect of his work is to make soils data more robust and readily accessible to other researchers for use in models.
Senior Scientist in Environmental and Biochemical Sciences
Marc is a senior researcher in catchment biogeochemistry in the James Hutton Institute. His core interests are in nutrient cycling in soils and freshwaters and the processes and management of riparian zones of rivers. Recent projects include Coupled Macronutrient Cycles from Source to Sea (NERC), Crop Utilisation of Organic Phosphorus (BBSRC), BufferTech (Danish Science Foundation), 3D Buffers (Environment Agency).
Research
Simon has a background in numerical modelling and data analysis as well as field survey work. His areas of knowledge cover a broad spectrum, including wetland function, arsenic occurrence in groundwater and dissolved oxygen signal processing in stream water. His doctorate concerned groundwater modelling and hydrogeology in Chalk catchments. For SmarterBufferz, he focuses on comparing EPA maps with field situations, as well as GIS data processing.
Research Technologist
Fabiola has over 10 years of agriculltural academic study. Collaborated at 5 different laboratories: Agricultural Machinery; Post Harvest Management; Acoustoelastic; Soil - management and conservation of soil and the use of different types of fertiliser and Water. Her last project was WaterProtect led by Teagasc, which aimed at at assessing the efficacy and uptake of mitigation measures to protect water resources from nitrate and pesticide loss in rural agricultural environment.
Environmental Scientist
Nikki's background is in soil hydrology and terrain analysis. Prior to joining the Institute Nikki had three years experience working on the European agricultural modelling project: STAMINA. She is also involved in modelling soil erosion at national and catchment scales using Pan European Soil Risk Assessment model, PESERA. She is interested in developing links between soil hydrology and the transport of chemicals and particulate matter.
Flood Risk Management Scientist
Mark is a research scientist in catchment hydrology, specializing in flood risk management at source. Other interests include the design, implementation and data analyses/modelling of hydrological catchment monitoring experiments. He was recently involved in a proof of concept project designed to demonstrate that linking data, models and expert knowledge will provide cost effective answers to vital wide-ranging environmental issues.
